our history
The Paris bombings of November 2015 triggered outrage around the world. As a follow-up in December, the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts held a daylong workshop “Refugees 101” which inspired members Pam Morss and Gail Campbell of St. John’s Church in Beverly farms to take action. At this workshop they learned of a local non-profit organization founded by Nadia Alawa in 2012 called NuDay Syria.
Immediately Pam, Gail and now joined by Terry Jennings established their partnership as a local outreach arm in support of NuDay Syria. Their volunteer work began by gathering a group of concerned parishioners to plan the first donation drive for clothing, coats and medical supplies in January 2016. Since that time, collecting donations has continued with input from Nadia Alawa who maintains ongoing communication inside Syria with the displaced women and their local councils to assess the needs.
By November 2017, two thirds of two shipping containers had been filled by the Syrian Refugee Mission who gathered and sent 1,119 bags of clothing, several bags of stuffed animals, 96 boxes of linens, shoes and blankets, 15 sewing machines and 420 book bags.
